This book was not what I was expecting... not sure exactly what that was but definitely not what I thought I was getting myself into. That being said I actually enjoyed this book, maybe not something I would've just picked out while browsing but definitely glad I read it and will probably be looking more into this author.
Amanda Feral, first off great name even better personality. She took her death and being turned and decided to finally live. A workaholic while living turned entrepreneur/socialist, she finally found real friends and is trying to figure out just what happened to one of them. I can definitely give Amanda props for making the most of her new undead "life" and finally realizing that its worth living.
The supporting character Wendy, Gil, Ricardo and Liesl are amazing, the group just worked and reminded me of the "in-crowd" from school. The stories of how they all came to be and actually met was very cool and the banter between the group kept me entertained. I also loved all the different species brought into play in the book and the otherworldly clubs and magazine reviews that kicked off the chapters.
This book had a lot of twists and turns and kept surprising me. I'm not a timid person but I was a little thrown off with the talk of cannibalism, I mean who wants to hear what we actually taste/smell like to someone who might actually be eating us. The author did do an excellent job of making it believable, I'm somewhat wondering if he's a zombie/cannibal I guess we'll find out in NOLA!
My only complaint is not in the writing but in the format I chose for this book, I bought the e-book and found that with next book excerpts/footnotes it was a little discouraging. I wound up thinking it was 444 pages... so halfway through at 150 or so pages I'm wondering what the hell the rest of the story is going to be? I would definitely recommend this book in paperback format rather than e-book.
